Bio: Joey Altruda has enjoyed a 40-year musical career beginning with the legendary post-punk “experi-mental” band Tupelo Chain Sex in 1981. Be it Afro-Cuban Mambo, Jamaican Ska, Brazilian, Jazz, Blues, or anything left of center, Altruda always delivers a high-quality end result.

He’s worked with the likes of Joe Strummer, Perry Farrell, Tom Zé, Bo Diddley, Tom Waits, Ernest Ranglin, and many iconic pioneers of early Jamaican music, earning him a Lifetime Achievement Award for the Preservation Of Jamaican Music in 2006.

As a DJ and collector of eclectic and strange records, Joey stands out as an original voice in the arena and was prominently featured in the book Dust And Grooves-Adventures In Record Collecting.

Coming from a family of generational artists, he has always expressed himself in many mediums aside from music and leans towards Dada and Theater of The Absurd in the assemblage art he creates.
